The plot follows two interconnected timelines. In Berlin of the 1990s a group of young hackers and art students had developed a planet browser in 1991 which was used by Joachim Sauter to get funding from Deutsche Telekom in 1993 to start the successful development of Terravision. In 2014 a patent infringement dispute against Google, alleging that TerraVision was used to develop Google Earth. The series dramatized the real lawsuit which lasted until 2017. We spent the first 3 months in a deep dive of the brand, understanding what makes the company tick. Who and what is Squaresapce and how could we redevelop the brand in a way that allowed it to stay relevant for years to come. We developed a robust system that was fueled by Kinetic Typography. This was central and foundational to the work developed. We looked at an audio Mnemonic, a jingle as something memoriable. Surely, as a digital ( screen-first ) company...motion should be top of mind.Studio Role _ Identity Development. We were brought into help rebrand Cruncyroll with a specific challenge. Future proof the brand so that it’s relevant for the next 10 years. A daunting task that uncovered some new approaches to how we look at brand development. We discovered that glyphs could provide authenticity of Anime culture for a fanbaase exceptionally picky. We realized that we had developed a trojan horse of sorts for the brand. That by adopting a broad language of ever developing Glyphs ( which Japanese designers can continue to add to ) the brand will continue to grow and develop.Studio Role _ Identity Development.
